Time to fuel up with renewables
Feb 3, 2021In our quest to reach CO2-neutral production by 2030, Nexans Sweden will run all forklifts and wheel loaders on 100% renewable fuel. The previous diesel tank will now be filled with HVO100, is a fossil-free alternative to the traditional diesel that has been used until now. (HVO is an abbreviation for Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil and is a chemical copy of fossil diesel.)
With exclusively fossil-free fuel in the company's work vehicles, the carbon footprint will be decreaed by 90% - which means about 270 tonnes / year. All electricity used in the operations in Grimsås already comes from renewable energy. All fuel forklifts will also be gradually replaced by electric forklifts by 2027.
“ The transition to a fossil-free alternative is an intermediate goal to achieve our commitment to reducing our CO2 emissions. The goal is to exclusively use battery-powered forklifts that are powered by renewable energy.
”
Syamend Al Ali
Plant Manager Nexans SwedenIn addition to a 90% reduction in the total carbon footprint, the following emissions are also reduced:
33% lower levels of fine particles
9% less nitrogen oxides (NOx)
30% less hydrocarbons (HC)
24% lower carbon monoxide (CO) emissions
reduced levels of polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)
“ Everywhere within our group, there is a clear focus on wanting to contribute to carbon-neutral production - it is just as important at group level as here in Grimsås. ”
