Kabelvärden #2 2021: Electrification is necessary to reduce climate change
Nov 8, 2021This issue of Kabelvärden revolves around reporting from Kiruna - the city which is moving to make room for LKAB´s operations and Nexans Climate Day in Stockholm.
Professor Tomas Kåberger, who led the talks on Nexans Climate Day, said that wind power production today is so efficient that it is profitable without subsidies. The production of solar power in countries such as Saudi Arabia is down to a cost of around 10 öre / kWh. Increasing production and improving the distribution of renewable electricity will be a cornerstone in the work against climate change.
An investment in electrification
Nexans´ CEO Christopher Guérin talked about Nexans´ investment in electrification. He said that the gigantic investments decided on in the US, China and Europe have led Nexans to abandon old focus areas for a concentrated investment in electrification.
The move of a city
In addition, Kabelvärden visited Kiruna which is moving - in September 2022 Kiruna will have a completely new center with shops open to the public and by the turn of the year 2022/2023 residents will move in - a gigantic project where Nexans delivers some of their installation cable and fire and safety cable.
Kabelvärden is only in Swedish.
