Flexible installations using Nexans' smart packaging solutions
Dec 1, 2021Simple installations are a crucial factor in increasing the efficiency and competitiveness of cable installers. The cable manufacturer Nexan' has therefore developed smart packaging solutions that can be used as a tool during installation.
“We have a range of packaging solutions with the aim of simplifying the everyday life of installers,” says Katrin Strömsjö, Marketing Communication Manager, Nexans Sweden.
Simplifying the work of installers, protecting cables during transport and contributing towards a reduced carbon footprint. These are some of the boxes Nexans has managed to tick in the development of its packaging solutions. The result is packaging that is not only flexible but also economically advantageous, as excess cables can be used at a later date thanks to the quality of the packaging. The packaging can also be used as a tool during installation.
“Our cables are metre-marked so you know how much you have used and can easily coil back the remaining cable for later use. We have different packaging solutions for different cables and they can all be resealed if you do not use the entire cable at once. In this way, the cable stays clean and in good condition until the last metre has been used. The packaging is also moisture-resistant and can easily be stored in the vehicle,” explains Katrin Strömsjö, before continuing:
“Nexans has even moved from packaging cables in plastic rings to offering cables in boxes with integrated handles - all for the purpose of streamlining the workflow.”
Carbon-neutral within ten years
The production of the packaging has been examined and optimised in line with Nexans’ major climate ambitions to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. Nexans has made significant investments in adapting both its cables and packaging to ensure that they are both climate-friendly and ergonomic. One important factor has been to ensure local production of the packaging solutions, which are made from corrugated cardboard, and making certain that they are 100 per cent recyclable.
“We are constantly taking steps towards our climate targets. Environmentally friendly, recyclable packaging is an integral part of Nexans’ transition to a circular society. Cable packaging can be so much more than just a way in which to store and transport cables, it can also, for example, reduce installation costs by making the installation process significantly simpler,” Strömsjö concludes.
