Kabelvärden #1 2024: AML - Recycled winner
May 20, 2024Now when spring is here, Kraftringen Anderstorp is out with the subcontractors Br. Henrikssons and Grimsås By Entreprenad. On the forest roads in Småland's Agnetaryd, some of the electricity poles have seen their best days. The overhead lines to remote households in the Skeppshult network are replaced by cables in the ground. For Project Manager Dennis Larsson, choosing cables from Nexans wasn´t a hard decision.
- We use Nexans' electrical cables almost exclusively.
Why is it that?
- We work a lot with sustainability within our company, so it is a matter of course to buy local cables. In addition, Nexans always delivers high quality cables and they are easy to deal with if you need cables faster than the stock status allows or if you need help with something else, says Dennis Larsson.
Speaking of sustainability, why did you choose Nexans AML, the climate-smart alternative, for this project?
- To be completely honest, I got the option automatically when I searched for N1XE and wondered why on earth they had changed the name of the cable? But it turned out to be a new cable with the same performance. Nexans AML goes hand in hand with our ambition to lead the development of future energy through local energy solutions that create environmental benefits and contribute to sustainable growth in the region.
Hadn't you used AML before?
- We had used it in a project before. But I hadn't heard any comments about it.
Did you check with your colleagues before making your decision?
- If a cable you have chosen performes poorly, you will find out immediately.
Now you have tested it yourself.
- Yes, I didn't notice any differences in the slimmer cable compared to the previous model. The coarser one is slightly stiffer, but the rip wire works perfectly so peeling was no problem. The fact that it is somewhat stiffer just indicates to me that it is even more robust and durable. When there is such a small difference, it is a matter of getting used to something new. I can guarantee that if the installers work with AML for two weeks, they will no longer experience any difference.
You sound satisfied.
- I still feel that the cable is flexible and easy to scale; so even if there is a small difference, I think a more climate-smart cable is worth it.
What is important when changing the design of a cable?
- That we can use the same accessories as before, such as joints. It's really frustrating when
it is not possible to use the same equipment and accessories that you are used to. But Nexan's AML can be used with everything that worked for N1XE. That´s really good.
