Sustainability at Nexans

We have several reasons to invest in sustainability.
And many reasons to hurry.

Sustainability at Nexans Sweden

We thought about sustainability even before we knew the word existed - simply because we want to make a difference.

For decades, we have connected people and businesses - ensuring that power is directed to where it is useful. Our driving force is to never stand still - to constantly innovate, improve, simplify.

The film describes in a comprehensive way what we have done so far. More details can be found under the tabs for each sustainability aspect.

Shaping a sustainable society, offering products and services that support sustainable development and creating a sustainable workplace –  it takes a lot of work, if you are serious about it.

Our sustainability work is based on three sustainability principles, we call the E3 model. The three E's stand for:

  • Engagement (Social sustainability),
  • Economics (Financial sustainability)
  • Environment (Ecological sustainability).

We are serious about our commitment in sustainability. That the E3 model has now replaced our previous business plan proves this.

Our conviction is that it is together - with our employees here in Sweden and the rest of the Nexans Group, with customers and suppliers, with society and organizations - that we can do the right things and move forward in the right direction. And luckily, there are many of us who want to get involved. Because we have a lot left to do and we need to hurry up to move forwards.

Objectives for Nexans Sweden

2026

Locally we aim to remove all CO2 emissions by 2026 (scope 1 and 2)

95 %

At least 95% of what we sell in the Nordics is locally produced by 2025.

10 %

Reduce the CO2e impact of our products by at least 10% by 2025

Emissions must decrease

In order to deliver on the Paris Agreement, the countries of the world must reach zero emissions by 2050. On WWF.se, we could read that Sweden needs to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide by more than 20 percent in 2022 in order for us as a country to be able to deliver fairly to the Paris Agreement.

Should the reductions be less than 20 percent, then even greater reductions must be made in the following years. The theory is roughly comparable to how to put out a fire. It is better to initially use larger amounts of water - it will be more effective and extinguish the fire faster.

Nexans´ global CSR work

It is in the interest of many that Nexans has a strong focus on sustainability. Our customers expect it. Our investors demand it. Our employees expect us to take responsibility for our environment, for the people in it and above all for future generations.
That Nexans has a strong commitment to sustainability issues is also confirmed by the third parties that verify our work on a global level. Among other things, for the third year in a row we have received a Platinum rating from Ecovadis.
Here are some of the initiatives Nexans runs or participates in. You can find more on the Groups work on Sustainability via the link to the right.

  • Nexans Foundation
Since the founding in 2013, more than 134 projects have been supported – giving disadvantaged regions access to electricity. In 2019, 20 projects in 38 countries were carried out with the help of 63 partner organisations.
  • UN Global Compact
  • Carbon Neutrality by 2030 :
To deliver upon the Paris agreement, COP21 and the 1.5 degree course, Nexans Group plans to reduce its emissions by 4,2 % every year by following a thorough plan for industrial activities (Scope 1, 2 and waste), purchasing activities (upstream and downstream transport, business trips) and so forth.
  • SBTI (Science-Based Targets Initiative)
A global partnership between CDP, the UN Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and WWF. This initiative helps companies put forward their CO2 reduction goals. These goals are then overseen to ensure that they align with the Paris agreement, COP21 and the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees.

Since 2022, we are building our business plan on our E3 model

Our business plan is now based on sustainability, our values and the three sustainability aspects of our E3 model, Engagement, Environment and Economy, and which in turn is in line with the UN's global goals for sustainable development.

This means that all new initiatives we initiate, all products we develop and all new partnerships we engage in should not only contribute to improved financial results, but also have a positive effect on the environment and people's engagement.

“ We do not have a separate strategy for sustainability. We have a business plan that we
ensure is sustainable by focusing on our three E's: Engagement, Environment, Economy
and by holding ourselves accountable for this plan. ”

Part of our everyday life

Our people is what sets us apart from our competition. Without an engaged organization, we will not be the leader that we wish to be. Our engagement index of 74% shows that we are on the right track.

We believe it is because we feel that at Nexans we do something good for the planet. We are part of the solution.

Locally produced products: A safe choice

By 2025, more than 95% of what we sell in the Nordics will be produced locally. Shorter transports, adapted products for a Nordic climate, better control over the manufacturing processes, cooperation with local suppliers, safer logistics. The advantages of local production are many. Regardless of which Nexans products you use, you make a safe and secure choice. We are where our customers are. Close to you.

Enjoy your day at work! has been our ambition for a long time when it comes to developing the right solutions for our customers. Our customers' sustainability goals are as obvious to us as our own.

Here are a few examples of how our cable solutions can contribute to sustainability goals.

Our most important task: Speed up sustainable electrification.

Perhaps our greatest contribution is to offer solutions for fast and sustainable electrification. Nexans can offer solutions for the entire value chain when it comes to renewable energy sources supporting global electrification.

Join forces with us

Within Nexans, many initiatives are taking place with the aim of speeding up sustainable electrification. Locally, we have, among other things, invited Nordic leaders in energy issues to the Nexans Group's annual Climate Day, which was held in 2021 at the Fotografiska museum in Stockholm.

We also have a series of meetings that we call "Nexans 3 under 33" where young sustainability experts from various companies and industries meet for discussions and knowledge exchange. We are constantly on the lookout for partners who, like us, are dedicated to prompt and sustainable electrification. And we are happy to spread knowledge about what can be done to speed it up, such as talking about the importance of correct cable sizing.
