Installers at a Factory Visit in Grimsås
May 31, 2024A full-day event at the factory in Grimsås
On Thursday morning, a group of eager electricians from various parts of Sweden gathered outside the gates of Nexans' factory in Grimsås. They were winners from our Advent competition in collaboration with @willefix, along with some specially invited self-employed contractors, inspectors, and installers, all eagerly anticipating a day filled with learning, competitions, and camaraderie. The atmosphere was already buzzing as they met at the gate, greeted by Nexans' Digital Marketing Coordinator Sofia Stocks.
Morning Presentation and Communal Breakfast
With the scent of freshly brewed coffee and newly baked bread in the air, the visitors were treated to a company presentation by Aron Andersson, Product Manager for Power Networks, and Jonas Brännström, Product Manager for Installation. They shared Nexans' history, vision, goals, and some exciting news about upcoming products. The electricians listened intently and asked many questions.
Factory Tour: The Making of a Cable
fter breakfast, the group was divided into two, and the first group began their factory tour. They gained insights into each step of cable manufacturing, from copper drawing and stranding to insulation, sheathing, and cable testing. The visitors found it both impressive and inspiring to see the factory in action and witness the meticulous manufacturing and testing of each cable.
After observing the delivery spooling and stranding processes, where cables are wound and packed into more user-friendly packaging, the visitors were taken to the new finished goods warehouse. Here, they saw the self-driving trucks, AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles), smoothly transporting pallets of ready-to-deliver cables day and night. They also competed in teams in an exciting triathlon. The competitions included "Reaction House," testing speed and precision, "Recycle & Win," focusing on the accuracy of material recycling, and a task to strip the new #CENSORED# cable to the nearest 21 cm, testing both visual measurement and practical skills. All participants made fantastic efforts, cheered on by their teammates, but with @Solpanelstjejen's precise stripping, Group 2 emerged as the clear winners!
Safety and High Voltage
The tour continued to the Alarm & Security and High Voltage production areas, where visitors got to see how safety is prioritized in every aspect of manufacturing. They also received a demonstration of how Nexans works to ensure that our products meet the highest standards.
Lunch and Theoretical Cable School
After an eventful morning, it was time for a communal lunch. Following Thursday tradition, pea soup and pancakes were served, and conversations flowed freely around the tables. The discussions continued in the afternoon when the groups switched activities. Those who had taken the factory tour now participated in a theoretical cable school, where they had the opportunity to touch and feel some of the company's latest products and gain a deeper understanding of the technology behind them.
Conclusion with coffee and prize-giving.
The day ended with a pleasant coffee break and award ceremony. Or actually, the day ended in the summer rain with @willefix showcasing his incredibly well-organized company van for a few who lingered in the parking lot. It was wonderful to see the community that had developed throughout the day and how everyone shared tips and tricks.
Nexans summarizes today's visit by stating that meeting end-users and hearing their perspectives is invaluable for Nexans, whose goal is to manufacture cables that make these individuals' daily lives easier. We extend a heartfelt thank you to all visitors and all Nexans employees who made this day so memorable. You are warmly welcome back!
